About This Project
CONTEMPORARY HANDLELESS KITCHEN, REDHILL
This stunning high-gloss contemporary kitchen is situated right in the heart of the home. It feels light, airy, minimalist and ready for entertaining at a moment’s notice!
We recently learnt that our customers had originally only planned to get a new boiler. Then the project escalated to changing the kitchen layout to create more space. Then it escalated further when they decided to go the whole way and have a new kitchen! Quite a different project than the planned home renovations but we’re so pleased they went for it and chose Paines & Gray to design their new space.
The original kitchen had been pure white with black worktops and our customers knew they still wanted a white kitchen but did not have a fixed idea of what style they wanted. It wasn’t until they saw one of our display kitchens that they chose this concept, the Mereway Futura Handleless. They loved the gloss finish, sleek handleless style and statement black glass splashback.
Paines & Gray Kitchen Design
As part of the project brief, the footprint of the kitchen and utility was changed to bring more light into the kitchen and increase its size. This was a great decision and has created a really light and open feel to what was a galley-style kitchen.
We were asked to make two key changes to the design of the previous kitchen. Firstly, to move the sink further down the worktop so it wasn’t in the way of people at the breakfast bar or in the food prep area. Secondly, to provide more drawer storage and full-height wall units.
The wall units go right to the ceiling maximising storage space, including a pull-out full height larder which is so practical in a busy kitchen. Everything is easy to see and reach, it’s a great slimline alternative to a pantry unit. By taking the wall units all the way to the ceiling, not only is the storage capacity increased but it helps the whole concept feel uncluttered, seamless and sophisticated.

The breakfast bar is now a large open and sociable space in a Super White quartz, perfectly complementing this gloss kitchen’s cool, contemporary design.
White high-gloss kitchens can feel a little stark but this kitchen feels tactile and inviting due to the contrasting high-gloss white units with the Indigo Blue matte colour used on the opposite run of cupboards. The dark matte and white gloss work so well together here.

The black glass splashback is a great feature in this kitchen. Style-wise it really complements the modern minimalist feel and pared-back colour scheme. Additionally, it reflects the view of the garden, which means that wherever you’re working in this kitchen, you’re looking directly at the garden or seeing it reflected. A lovely aspect and one of our favourite design details.
Key Appliances
For the appliances, the brief was to have plenty of fridges! This kitchen houses no less than four Neff fridges; an under-counter champagne fridge, an under-counter drinks fridge, a double fridge for food and a small freezer. No warm beers in this household!
Completing the appliance spec are Neff ovens, a Quooker tap and a stunning Bora hob with downdraft extraction.
“Jim really listened and delivered on everything. He was very flexible and able to make changes as we went through the process. We would definitely recommend Jim and the team to anyone. It was a very positive experience, couldn’t fault anything,”
