NEW KITCHEN EXTENSION, REDHILL
This stunning blue shaker kitchen and cream utility room is the Charnwood kitchen by Mereway with classic lay on doors. Combined with the statement tiles, this kitchen is just a showstopper.
As a lockdown project, our clients remarked to us that this kitchen was a welcome home improvement to focus on, and that they really enjoyed the creative process at that time. The resulting kitchen transformation was then a very welcome and spacious oasis to retreat into.
Now, with restrictions lifted, the new extension is the ideal backdrop for entertaining and family gatherings. The peninsula provides the perfect spot to pull up a couple of bar stools and unwind after a long week.
Paines & Gray Kitchen Design
One of the priorities at the outset of the design process was to find the balance between modern but not too modern. The clients wanted a fresh modern kitchen, but not make it too contemporary, which would then be out of sync with their existing interior style.
An elegant lay on shaker strikes just the right note, especially in this deep, dramatic blue. Initially the brief was for a ‘french bistro’ green for the colour scheme, but after visiting the showroom, they fell for the blue.
This rich shade of blue won them over, and we’re so pleased it did. Shaker kitchens retain a classic feel, even in bold, modern colour palettes and the whole concept works so well in this house.
The kitchen is positioned in the darkest spot in the extension which lends itself to the bold colour even more so. White worktops, patterned tiles, and plenty of lighting options ensure the kitchen still feels spacious and bright. Brushed chrome handles complete the look perfectly.
As keen cooks, getting the practical space just right was really important in this kitchen. Defined zones for the dirty and clean tasks were created, hence the hob and sink are on the back walls, and within easy reach of each other. The symmetry was essential here too, with the sink and hob placed carefully in central positions on the two back walls. Using the back walls for the hob and sink leaves the peninsula and main worktop beautifully clear of clutter. Our clients told us how much they love this prep space with views out over the garden, and the ability to engage with guests in the dining area, whilst working in the kitchen.
Previous to the extension, the utility used to be at the other end of the house, now it is properly connected to the new kitchen. Creating the perfect, practical space for white goods, a second fridge and a large butler sink.
The utility is differentiated in a cream colour scheme but beautifully linked to the kitchen with its coherent style and the statement tiles.
