About This Project

This lovely Edwardian family home with a stunning vaulted ceiling features an open-plan kitchen diner, and separate utility.

The kitchen is the Mereway Gainsborough range, which is a beaded shaker style, specified here in Pale Grey and Indigo Blue with a painted woodgrain finish.

Elegant and classic, this kitchen design perfectly complements its characterful, period setting.

Paines & Gray Kitchen Design

Prior to working with Paines & Gray, our customer had explored options with the big brands but felt they couldn’t achieve what they wanted and sought a more personal, tailored service from an independent like us. We were delighted to be involved and worked closely with the customer to achieve their dream kitchen.

One of the major changes to the layout was switching the dining room and kitchen spaces. Previously, the dining room was in the vaulted ceiling extension, with the kitchen taking up the internal room, but as part of the renovations to the house, a wall was removed, and the kitchen moved into the main space.

This is a much better configuration for a sociable, family kitchen with more natural light, space and access to the garden.

Our customer had a strong vision for the kitchen and the look they wanted to achieve with a two-tone colour scheme and shaker style. The Gainsborough beaded shaker by Mereway was the obvious choice with its more ornate styling on the doors. The Indigo Blue on the low units and Pale Grey on the tall and wall units are a classic colour combination and work so well in this space.

Storage is always key in a busy family kitchen, so a breakfast pantry was incorporated into the design. This is ideal for storing small appliances, breakfast items and dry goods, keeping surfaces clear of clutter.

To link the kitchen and dining spaces and provide more storage, we designed a run of units for the dining room. These units are in the beaded shaker style and painted in Indigo Blue. The utility room was also given a makeover and features the beaded shaker units in Pale Grey.

For the finishing touches, the cup handles are antique brass which suits the age and style of the house so well. The worktops are Calacatta Dorado quartz with beautiful veining by CRL Stone.

Key Appliances

With NEFF Slide & Hide double ovens, a BORA Pure hob and Quooker Flex, this kitchen is ready for busy family life. The double butler sink is from The 1810 Company and is the Argilla Fireclay 800 model. It is so in keeping with the house, the perfect choice here.

“Andrew was amazing; it was absolutely stress-free. There was nothing they couldn’t solve, they were so responsive and so reasonably priced.”
